Anybody ever heard of World War 1? The "Great War"? 1914-1918? Hello?Historians do lament the fact that this war has for the most part been forgotten. Maybe this means more to Canadians than most, since WW1 was a major milestone in the history of our country.
In fact we lost more soldiers in WW1 than we did in the next one.
Who cares, right? A couple hundred thousand less boring Canadians.

Here is the answer:
Qualified to Be Ministers published in 1967, by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society had this to say about the Association:
"Such a corporation came into legal existence February 23, 1909, and was named People's Pulpit Association. Thirty years later, in 1939, the name was changed to its present one, Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Inc." [pg. 309]
So there you have it. This People's Pulpit association which according to the WT society "tended to establish a religious sect centered around a man" was in fact the same corporation that is around today. Except now they "establish a religious sect" centered around an organization. Par for the course, I guess.

God's Kingdom of a Thousand Years Has Approached published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in 1973 had this to say concerning the issue of idolizing C.T. Russell:
"This view was prominently featured in the book published in July of 1917 by the People's Pulpit Association of Brooklyn, New York. This book was called "The Finished Mystery" and furnished a commentary of the Bible books of Revelation and Ezekiel and The Songs of Solomon. On its Publishers page the book was called the "Posthumous Works of Pastor Russell." Such a book and religious attitude tended to establish a religious sect centered around a man" [pg 347]

my parents just called and told me that the elders were going to forbid my sister to have her wedding in the hall, and refused an elder to give the talk because we were going to be in it.
there is no reason for this because we are not df'd or da'd.
i think my dad is going to type out his da letter tonite, he was so pissed.. to all active jw's who post here!!!.

The same thing happened to me with my first marriage. We were both in "good standing" but were not allowed to use the hall to get married. It was a control issue. I had bumped heads with the elders about a few minor issues, and this was there way of showing me who the boss was. We ended up getting married in City Hall, and besides immediate family, no one showed up.
The irony of the whole thing was that I used to be a regular contributer, dropping in $50 and $100 bills on a regular basis. I also volunteered for any and every project around the KH. I was there for them all. After that happened, I did not drop 1 red cent in the box, and I never helped around the hall again. I figured after 20 years of supporting that place, the least I could get was 45 minutes to use the place for my wedding.
I remember one time it was our book studies turn to clean the hall. One of the elders came up to me as I was leaving and made some comment about doing my part to clean the hall. Man, if looks could kill I would have vaporized him where he stood!! It never came up again.
